WILDCAT WRITERS CURRICULUM
Wildcat Writers pairs UA Writing Program composition sections with various classes (English, civics, mythology, psychology, etc.) in local high schools. A majority of the classes are paired with English 102/108 or 109 courses, while some are paired with ENGL 307 (Business Writing) or ENGL 308 (Technical Writing). The structure of Wildcat Writers partnerships differs on the basis of each teacher partnership’s needs. Once teachers understand the objectives of each other’s classes, they can begin to craft assignments that serve the goals of the class while encouraging a collaborative and friendly relationship among student partners.
Possibilities include having students discuss the same texts online, co-author writing assignments, or simply exchange occasional emails about high school and college life. Wildcat Writers offers the freedom for each pair of instructors to link their classes in a way that fits their particular goals. Recent highlights include:
Collaboratively written graphic novels
TEDx events
Participatory action research on educational inequality
Panel discussion on local issues
Literacy night at high school
Podcasts
Poetry slams
